PAGE ONE (five panels)

Panel 1. An establishing of a city but from high above. It looks like a satellite image, a sort of google earth vibe.

Panel 2. The same as before but closer. Now smoke can be seen rising from the center of the city which has been totally obliterated by some kind of disaster. It’s bright and sunny otherwise and birds can be seen.

Panel 3. Even closer there is a huge crater now plainly visible and in the center a man can be seen lying on the ground flat on his back with his arms outstretched. Around him in a circle are corpses in various stages of dismemberment but there is a bare space between them and the man in the center.

Panel 4. Even closer, now the features of the man, ALISTER, become visible. He is tall and athletic with brown hair; he is dressed casually in jeans and a T-shirt which are torn and blasted. His left arm has a tattoo of a crucifix. He is staring up in the sky eyes wide as though transfixed in fear.

Panel 5. A close up of ALLISTER’s steel grey eyes.

1. NARRATION:                   I died here.

PAGE TWO (five panels)

Panel 1. A hallway in a public building. There are no windows and there are various pieces of medical equipment scattered half-hazardly around. Some doors look recently installed as though it was in the middle of a major renovation. The whole place looks sterile but also messy, like a hospital after a major emergency. Although it’s not obvious, on closer examination some of the gear is stamped ‘Castor Pharmaceuticals’. There are two men walking down a hallway, there are rooms off to either side with observation ports like a prison. The doors look like recent installations. The men are dressed like scientists and one of them has a clipboard.

Panel 2. The two men have stopped in front of one of the doors and slide open the observation slit and are leaning forward to peer inside.

1. SCIENTIST:                       …And this one?

2. CLIPBOARD (OFF):         Allister DeWitt, born and raised in a little town not far from San Antonio. Father’s a Baptist minister, mother’s a… homemaker, which is just a fancy way to say unemployed, I think.

Panel 3. A full view of ALLISTER as though the viewer were looking over him. He is on a bed hooked up to several different machines and an IV drip, the whole nine yards. He’s been stripped naked and his wounds are no longer bleeding. However his body appears partially necrotized, especially on his right side radiating out from his arm which is a purplish black with engorged veins.

3. CLIPBOARD (OFF):         Student in the UT at Arlington doing a major in psychology. In the ROTC program. Got Bs and a few Cs. He’s in his senior year but from the look of his transcript he’ll need a fifth to finish.

4. CLIPBOARD (OFF):         Votes. He’s a registered Libertarian, Jesus Christ. No criminal record. Average credit rating and a clean driving record. He once served on a jury for a child abduction case which returned a guilty verdict.

5. CLIPBOARD (OFF):         Emergency medical contact was his parents but both were visiting Arlington and are missing believed killed in the impact event. Excellent physical condition, apparently, he was a collegiate rock-climbing competitor.

Panel 4. A view from inside the room. The door leading inside is visible as are the men looking through it. The room looks like a hospital room, but without any of the niceties like flowers or a TV. ALISTER is visible on the bed.

6. SCIENTIST (OFF):            Collegiate rock climbing? That’s a thing?

7. CLIPBOARD (OFF):         Apparently.

8. CLIPBOARD (OFF):         Never guess what he was doing when the impact hit. He was a freakin pizza guy, out on a delivery.

9. SCIENTIST (OFF):            You gotta be fucking kidding.

10. CLIPBOARD (OFF):       Thirty minutes or it’s free.

Panel 5. A shot of the heart rate monitor, it’s showing a regular very low activity.

11. SCIENTIST (OFF):          You know I could go for a pizza actually.

12. CLIPBOARD (OFF):       We’ll pick up a couple slices once we’re off the clock.

13. CLIPBOARD (OFF):       Anyway, we pulled him out of the rubble in a coma and apparently his body is reacting differently to the impact material then any of the others.

14. CLIPBOARD (OFF):       Dr. Castor wants him preserved until he can fly down here to examine him personally.

PAGE THREE (four panels)

Panel 1. The hallway again. A shot from behind. The two men are now walking further on leaving ALLISTER’s room behind.

1. SCIENTIST:                       Eh the commissary never has any good pizza. God forbid they serve a slice with olives.

2. CLIPBOARD:                    Olives on a pizza? Disgusting.

Panel 2. A close up of ALLISTER’s face. He looks dead.

3. SCIENTIST (CAPTION): You don’t know a single Goddamn thing about cuisine. Olives are some good shit.

Panel 3. A shot of ALLISTER’s torpid body.

Panel 4. ALLISTER lurches to a sitting position gasping desperately for air.

Panel 3. ALLISTER has slumped up against the door as though in despair. He’s clutching at his stomach.

Panel 4. A close up of ALLISTER’s face. He seems confused as though he’s just realized that he’s conscious and in a strange place.

3. ALLISTER:                                    Where the heck am I?

Panel 5. ALLISTER stands up weakly in front of the door with his hand on his head looking back at the hospital room.

4. ALLISTER:                                    The last thing I remember…

PAGE FIVE (five panels)

Panel 1. A shot of an interstellar object entering the earth’s atmosphere from space.

Panel 2. ALLISTER is visible in the clothes from the first page but he is still uninjured. He is standing on a crowded city street in front of an apartment building holding a pizza box. He’s looking up as are a couple of other people.

Panel 3. A shot of ALLISTER from behind looking up and the meteor can be seen streaking through the sky. All the people are now looking up at it.

Panel 4. A recreation of the fourth panel from the first page.

Panel 5. A recreation of the fifth panel from the first page.

1. NARRATION:                   I died…

PAGE SIX (six panels)

Panel 1. A close up of a woman, GEMINI, from behind her. In front of her is a microphone and the room she is in is dark and mostly empty but her short dark hair is dimly illuminated by an image of ALLISTER in security footage on her computer.

1. GEMINI:                            Well, isn’t this interesting.

Panel 2. ALLISTER has fallen to his hands and knees in the hospital room and is gripping his head as though he’s suffering from a severe migraine. An intercom is visible by the door and it’s from this GEMINI’s voice emerges.

2. GEMINI:                            Hey you. Can you hear me?

3. ALLISTER:                                    Yes…

Panel 3. ALLISTER is using the bed to drag himself to his feet; he’s still suffering from a headache.

4. ALLISTER:                                    Who are you?

Panel 4. A close up of GEMINI’s mouth forming a smile.

5. GEMINI:                            The room you’re in is only equipped with a security camera but no microphone. I can’t hear you but I take it you can hear me. Use the intercom and we can speak.

Panel 5. Back in the hospital room ALLISTER presses the button on the intercom.

6. ALLISTER:                        Who are you?

7. GEMINI:                            I’m not exactly supposed to be doing this so you’ll forgive me if I don’t tell you my name. Call me Gemini.

Panel 6. A close up of ALLISTER’s right hand which appears mutated and discolored.

8. ALLISTER:                                    My name is Allister. What happened?

9. GEMINI:                            That’s difficult to explain; perhaps it would be best if we concentrated on getting you free first.

PAGE SEVEN (seven panels)

Panel 1. A shot from outside in the hall viewing the door into the hospital room. ALLISTER is visible looking out of the view port.

1. ALLISTER:                        Why exactly am I here? How do I know I want to get out?

2. GEMINI:                            I suppose you’ve been unconscious until recently. You’re being held by the military relief forces as a subject for experimentation. You were infected with something during the… incident.

Panel 2. Back inside the hospital room ALLISTER is now leaning casually up against the wall next to the intercom.

3. ALLISTER:                        I admit I don’t care much for the fact that they’ve locked me in here.

4. ALLISTER:                        But if you’re hoping that I just assume all military experiments are immediately evil just because it’s that way in the movies I’m afraid you’re going to be disappointed.

Panel 3. ALLISTER is gawking at his arm. He’s still not thinking clearly enough to be horrified he seems more morbidly fascinated.

5. GEMINI:                            Don’t tell me you actually trustthe government?

6. ALLISTER:                        Well, I wouldn’t go that far but to be honest with you I look like I really do need a doctor right now.

Panel 4. ALLISTER tries to look out through the observation slit in the door.

7. GEMINI:                            You’re not in a hospital. You’re in the Earle Cabell Federal Building.

8. ALLISTER:                        Didn’t look like this when I did jury duty here.

Panel 5. A close up of GEMINI’s hands working over a keyboard.

9. GEMINI:                            I don’t expect it did.

10. GEMINI:                          FEMA took it over once they found out it was the closest government building to the impact event still intact, mostly intact that is.

11. ALLISTER:                      Impact event?

Panel 6. Another recreation of the panel of ALLISTER looking up at the meteor.

12. GEMINI (CAPTION):     I didn’t want to get into this until you were safe but I didn’t expect you would need this much convincing.

13. GEMINI (CAPTION):     Something, no one’s sure what yet, landed right between Dallas and Fort Worth.

14. GEMINI (CAPTION):     Early reports said it was a small nuke. Now they’re saying meteor. Arlington is just about vaporized. Hundreds of thousands missing.

15. NARRATION:                 I died.

Panel 7. A close up of ALLISTER. He seems to be brooding and not really listening.

16. GEMINI:                          Actually, you’re one of the only people in the city who survived.

17. GEMINI:                          And these experiments they’re going to run on you aren’t so much about curing you as dissecting you.

PAGE EIGHT (six panels)

Panel 1. ALLISTER is broken out of his reverie. He’s worried but not panicked.

1. ALLISTER:                        My parents were visiting me in Arlington. Are they alright?

2. GEMINI:                            Honestly Allister I don’t know. But if you agree to help me and we get you out of there I promise you I will do everything I can to find out.

Panel 2. A shot from over GEMINI’s shoulder looking at her monitor. ALLISTER is directly addressing the security camera.

3. ALLISTER:                        Alright suppose I believe you.

4. ALLISTER:                        How exactly do you want me to help you?

Panel 3. In the room ALLISTER paces back and forth restlessly while he listens.

5. GEMINI:                            I’ve been trying to get evidence of what they’re doing out of that building and I think you might be a golden opportunity.

6. GEMINI:                            That evidence should also prove to you I’m telling the truth.

Panel 4. A close up as ALLISTER considers the matter and develops a twitch in his right eye.

Panel 5. A similar shot to the last panel but ALLISTER rubs his eye to stop the twitching.

7. ALLISTER:                        Sure, why not. Sounds like fun.

Panel 6. ALLISTER is hopping around the room like he’s amped up. He moves around kind of like a boxer before a fight.

8. GEMINI:                            You suddenly seem much more enthusiastic.

9. ALLISTER:                        I’m just sick of thinking about it. Let’s just do it and see what happens.

PAGE NINE (seven panels)

Panel 1. ALLISTER pulls a metal bar free from his bed which was used as a handrail on the side.

1. GEMINI:                            If I send a technician into that room do you think you’d be able to surprise and subdue him?

Panel 2. ALLISTER looks at the metal bar in his hand.

2. ALLISTER:                        Yep.

Panel 3. ALLISTER takes a few practice swings.

3. GEMINI:                            Well, that’s good. Because I’ve buzzed one to come check your life support equipment.

4. GEMINI:                            He should be wearing a headset, put it on and I’ll use it to guide you.

Panel 4. A shot of the TECHNICIAN walking down the hallway up towards ALLISTER’s room. He’s checking his phone and whistling a tune

4. ALLISTER (OFF):             Got it.

Panel 5. The TECHNICIAN swings open the door to the room and walks up towards ALLISTER who is back on the bed and playing at being asleep which holding the bar out of sight.

Panel 3. ALLISTER emerged into an office space which has been refitted with lab equipment. A few screensavers show the logo for ‘Castor Pharmaceuticals’.

2. ALLISTER:                                    There’s no one here at all?

3. GEMINI:                            Ah, I suppose you wouldn’t know what time it was would you.

4. GEMINI:                            It’s in the middle of the graveyard shift and they’ve had some trouble getting personnel into the city since the disaster.

Panel 4. ALLISTER walks between the desk scanning the items on top which are mostly equipment or left-over personal effects from the previous workers. He’s heading towards a set of double doors.

5. ALLISTER:                        FEMA always has trouble getting things done in an emergency.

6. ALLISTER:                        It wouldn’t be such a problem if they weren’t federal agency in charge of managing emergencies.

7. GEMINI:                            The experimentation rooms should be just ahead.

Panel 5. ALLISTER opens the double doors and reacts with shock to what he sees on the other side.

8. ALLISTER:                        God help us.

Panel 6. A wide shot of a room outfitted like a morgue for autopsies but there are multiple subjects being dissected at once. All the patients’ bodies are in various stages of actually consumption by an infection which looks very similar to ALLISTER’s arm. Some are little more than torsos and all have other injuries from the impact. A few of the more intact patients have had their torsos pulled open and their organs have been pooled around them on stands set up around them for that purpose.

9. ALLISTER:                        What the hell are they doing here?

10. GEMINI:                          Not pretty is it.

11. GEMINI:                          This is why we need to get you out of there.

10. CLIPBOARD:                  Well Subject 13 seems to be… Well, that is to say he’s not… He’s not exactly located in a place… of which we are aware… of where it is at… currently.
